About Me

My photo
@disaster_dave
West Seattle, Washington, United States
I retired from the US Army after 20 years, worked in some dotcoms and decided to give back by joining the Red Cross. I was the Assistant Director of Disaster Services for four great years. With a focus on disaster planning, response, volunteer management, government liaison and anything else, we needed to do to help the survivors. I responded to several disasters including Hurricane Ike. I followed that by 8 great years at Public Health Seattle & King County, Washington. While there I was responsible for recruiting, managing and deploying the Public Health Reserve Corps. (I was also responsible for other things that have nothing to do with this blog) I also volunteer as a Response Team member for ShelterBox, an international volunteer response team that delivers warmth and dignity in the form of a shelter. And as of 2019 have deployed to eight disasters in eight different countries. I am proud to be a CEM as well as a Fellow of the Emergency Management Academy. I think this combination gives me a good foundation to write about Disaster Preparedness and volunteerism and helping them be great.
